Why are Co-working Spaces Important at University? The Hub Spaces Experience at BAU Campus

In university life, learning and production processes spill over outside the lecture halls and continue through individual study, team projects, meetings and common spaces where students from different disciplines come together. At BAU Campus, we approach the Hub Spaces concept as one of the components of the campus experience that can adapt to the diverse study needs of our students throughout the day. Alongside Hub Spaces, our campus also features multi-disciplinary laboratories, technology labs, R&D areas and living spaces. In this way, we bring study, research and social interaction processes together within a structure that complements one another.

At BAU Campus, we offer a variety of workspace options tailored to different styles of working. Our campus layout includes hot desking areas, dedicated individual desks, meeting rooms, event spaces, private offices and virtual office options. This diversity allows our students and different users within the campus ecosystem to choose a working environment that suits their needs. Since independent study and collaborative team projects can require different physical conditions, we view the variety of spaces on campus as an essential, complementary element of the production process.

Another aspect of co-working spaces is that they allow different ideas to meet within the same physical environment. At BAU Campus, we shape our Innoversity model around a focus on technology, experience and production. We aim to create a campus environment where our students can conduct research, develop ideas and engage with entrepreneurial processes. Hub Spaces is positioned within this structure as one of the areas used for work and interaction.

This approach also contributes to students making more natural transitions between their different academic tasks throughout the day. Having various options on campus to meet with teammates after a lecture, work on a developing idea, or focus on an individual task allows the working process to continue seamlessly within the same environment. For this reason, we consider Hub Spaces as a key part of the physical space diversity in campus life.

At BAU Campus, we do not view multi-disciplinary laboratories, R&D areas, technology-focused work environments, Hub Spaces and living spaces as disconnected structures. We see the co-existence of these areas as a framework that supports our students in building connections between research, project development, collaborative work and daily campus life.

Within this approach, the Hub Spaces experience offers a flexible environment where our students can adapt to different ways of working. At BAU Campus, we continue to foster a university experience where learning, research and production can spread across different areas of the campus.
