Academics from BAU at the European Academy of Science and Art
BAU Academics at the European Academy of Sciences and Arts
The European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA), one of the world's most prestigious academic networks, accepted four academics from Bahçeşehir University as members during this year's general assembly. Prof. Dr. Serdar Durdağı, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Ulaş Sunata from the Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Economic, Administrative and Social Sciences, and Dr. Erman Türkili from the Conservatory are among the new members of EASA. With the addition of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derya Gürses Tarbuck, who was accepted last year, the number of BAU academics has risen to four.
EASA consists of about two thousand academics working in various fields from humanities to medicine, and from art to natural sciences, including Nobel Prize winners, and it embraces academics who stand out with their interdisciplinary and international collaborations.
Interdisciplinary Studies at BAU Gain International Recognition
During the EASA membership process, candidates' scientific contributions, as well as their interdisciplinary approaches and areas of international influence, are taken into consideration. In this context, the work conducted by Bahçeşehir University academics in different fields was evaluated.
Prof. Dr. Serdar Durdağı, known for his work in drug design and development supported by artificial intelligence, expressed that he sees this membership as a result of collaboratively produced knowledge and established academic partnerships. Prof. Dr. Ulaş Sunata, known for his work in migration and sociology, emphasized the importance of their research being valued in a European context.
The First Selected Name from Turkey in the Field of Music
Dr. Erman Türkili, a faculty member at the BAU Conservatory, is recognized for his educational methods developed in the area of early age and autism. Türkili became the first academician from Turkey selected for EASA in the field of music. He expressed that this membership carries a strong representation both personally and on behalf of the country.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derya Gürses Tarbuck, whose EASA membership was accepted in 2024, emphasized that the presence of four academics from BAU in this academy enhances the university's international academic visibility.
The Historical Ground of BAU CAMPUS and Academic Continuity
The international success achieved by BAU academics aligns with Bahçeşehir University's approach based on academic continuity. BAU CAMPUS emerges as one of the spatial counterparts of this continuity.
The Gazi Osman Paşa Mansion, located in the area where BAU CAMPUS stands today, was built between 1879 and 1881. The structure functioned as a school between 1915 and 1927, directly relating it to education. This function continued during the Republic era, but over time the building was demolished and remained vacant for many years.
Bahçeşehir University has revitalized this historical structure in the 2024-2025 term, bringing it back into educational use. The historical background of BAU CAMPUS not only adds a physical but also an intellectual depth to the academic productions being conducted here today. The connection established with education in the past is becoming visible again with the academics present in international scientific networks today.
