An Idea That Puts Music Practice in Your Pocket: AI-Powered Application from a BAU Student

Music education is one of the fields where regular practice and the ability to track one's own progress are highly important. Arda Eren Kaya, a 3rd-year student in the Department of Music Technology at Bahçeşehir University (BAU) Conservatory, has developed a project that addresses this need through mobile technologies. PractEar, created by Kaya to support musicians' ear training and daily practice, can be used on phones and tablets as a mobile application developed with artificial intelligence support. The application brings together over 30 interactive exercises aimed at fundamental music skills, such as ear training, rhythm, sight-reading, and chord recognition, on a single platform.
The starting point for the application, developed by BAU student Arda Eren Kaya, lies in Kaya's own conservatory preparation experience. Stating that he noticed a lack of modern mobile applications through which students could practice regularly and interactively during the period he was preparing for talent exams, Kaya developed PractEar by leveraging artificial intelligence and software technologies. The application particularly aims to assist the study processes of students preparing for fine arts high schools, conservatories, and music talent exams. Additionally, users who wish to develop their musical ear and make their daily practice more regular are also among the target audience of the application.
The AI-supported music application allows users to track their daily and weekly progress while bringing exercises to the mobile environment. In this way, music practice transforms from a task performed only during specific lesson hours into a process that users can sustain according to their own schedule. Particularly supporting users to exercise at times when they do not have the opportunity to study with an expert, the structure aims to make the practice process more accessible and trackable.
Integrating digital tools into music education also allows for the diversification of students' study methods. Mobile applications, which can be used alongside traditional education methods, can create an additional study area in terms of repetition, trying out different exercises, and observing individual progress. In the case of PractEar, this approach transforms into a solution idea arising directly from a need encountered by a student during their own preparation process.
From the perspective of BAU Campus, the project serves as an example of students being able to develop their own solutions by bringing together the needs of their fields of study with technology. PractEar, in which BAU Conservatory student Arda Eren Kaya combines music technology, software, and artificial intelligence, demonstrates how an idea born from classroom knowledge and the student's personal experience can turn into a mobile product. The application, which Kaya continues to develop, makes music practice accessible via phones and tablets, whilst also revealing that student output can extend beyond campus life.
