How Are University Libraries Changing? A New Generation Study Experience with Barbaros Library at BAU Campus

In university life, libraries are becoming not only a means of accessing academic resources but also an important part of individual study, research, project development and collaborative production processes. Located at the BAU Campus, the Barbaros Library offers an academic space where our students can meet their diverse study needs in the same environment. Having started service in its new space opposite the Faculty of Law in M Block as of 9 January 2025, the Barbaros Library supports the study and research dimension of campus life.

In our new space, we bring together different usage opportunities for individual study and group projects. While our students can focus on their own research, exam preparation or academic reading, they can also work on joint projects with their teammates. Thus, rather than being a space confined to a single style of study, the library transforms into a learning environment that adapts to different academic needs.

The history of the Barbaros Library at Bahçeşehir University dates back to 1999. Opened on 11 October 1999, the date our university began education, our library has over time become one of the fundamental academic spaces of campus life. Today, we continue to bring this heritage together with our students' current study habits and academic needs in its new space in M Block.

The library's location within the campus also allows our students to transition more easily between classes and individual study, research and group projects. The availability of academic study spaces that can be used outside of classrooms supports the spread of the learning process across different points of the campus. By offering individual focus and collaborative study options within the same structure at the Barbaros Library, we aim to meet the diverse needs of our students throughout the day.

At the BAU Campus, in addition to educational spaces, we consider R&D areas, multi-disciplinary laboratories, technology-oriented working environments and living spaces as parts of the campus experience. Within this structure, the Barbaros Library stands as one of our spaces that support access to information, research and academic production. Our students can benefit from an environment where they can develop the knowledge they acquire during lectures through research, reading and project work.

The journey of the Barbaros Library, which began in 1999, continues today in its new space in M Block with a structure that supports individual and collaborative study styles. At the BAU Campus, we view the library experience both through access to resources and as an integrated academic environment where our students can research, study and produce together.
